What are snap-on dentures?
Snap-on dentures are dentures that do just that – snap on! Drs. Yam and Shirzadnia perform a minimally invasive implant surgery at our Manhattan office in which very small titanium posts are placed in your jaw where teeth are missing. These posts serve as the studs that snap into the snap-on denture. Because the titanium of the posts naturally bonds with the jaw, a strong foundation is formed, securing the dentures as they snap into place.
How do snap-on dentures compare to traditional dentures?
One of the biggest advantages of snap-on dentures is that they do not cover the roof of your mouth which causes the dentures to feel like your natural teeth. Snap-on dentures do not slip and slide. They don’t rub or require extra adhesives. In a nutshell, they stay firmly in place, allowing you to enjoy life to the fullest without worry or distraction.
How do snap-on dentures affect my eating?
Due to the posts that hold a snap-on denture in place, no covering over the palate of your mouth is required. This allows you to fully experience the tastes and temperature of your food, bringing you back to a better quality of life. An additional bonus: snap-on dentures do not slide around as you chew. They are fixed in place and make eating a pleasure.
How do I clean my snap-on dentures?
Snap-on dentures are secure and permanent, but they are removable which makes cleaning quite easy. Dr. Pasch, here at Herald Square Dental and The Denture Center, recommends you clean your snap-on dentures in the same way you’d care for traditional dentures: rinsing thoroughly after meals and brushing them once a day. As is proper hygiene for all denture maintenance, take care to brush your gums, tongue, and palate before inserting your dentures.
Sometimes dentures make my jaw tired. Do snap-on dentures have the same effect?
Not at all. The traditional lower denture balances on the small bony ridge of your lower jaw which may require you to slightly and subconsciously apply pressure, using muscles in your mouth, to keep it in place. It is quite the opposite with snap-on dentures which fasten snuggly onto lower implants, allowing you to go out into the world with renewed and relaxed confidence!
